A transfer mode in GALsync’s terminology is the technical way data are transmitted between the source and the target forest. GALsync offers different options like email, windows file share or ftp.
For each policy the transfer option must be configured seperatly and may be differnt from other policies.
This option should be used in a testing period. In export policies data are exported to a local file, in import policies data are read from a local file. No real “transmission” happens.
With this option in an export policy the data will be send to the other forest by using an email system. Data itself are compressed and attached to an email. At the receivers site data are extracted from the email.
This is the recommended transfer mode for GALsync.
With this option the data will be stored at an FTP-Server.
Both, senders and receivers have to get access to this FTP-Server.
This option might be used if the amount of synchronized data is too large for mail attachments.
With this option the data will be stored at an Windows File share.
Both, senders and receivers have to get access to this Share.
This option might be used in trusted environements.
